I've finally finished Stormfall, Aqua's keyblade for the cosplay! Materials used: plywood, light air-drying clay (Hearty clay), crystal resin and Rub-and-buff colors and various colored acrylic finishes. Also metal wire for the keychain holder/chain. The keychain Stormfall symbol was made out of hard air-drying clay and real blue stone.


The keyblade is overally very light (lighter than one would expect for its size) and very sturdy, hard to scratch. This is because of the crystal resin applied all over the Hearty clay. This was a step I was not sure about, I failed it miserably, and had to re-do a lot of steps already done by that point. I spent twice or thee times more time on the keyblade than I normally woul without this. BUT I am finished with the final result because the keyblade surface is much more durable now!


I want to thank to my friend Raichu who extracted the reference picture of the keychain right out of the game - a good reference did not exist anywhere on the net!

Would you be willing to share those reference pictures? Because that single one of Stormfall itself and staring at my PSP screen have not given me any more details, and this looks amazing.

How well did this hold up at a con???!!!! I've done air drying clay before and it fell apart on me!!! >~<

Actually, it is pretty sturdy - thanks to the crystal resin. I even fought Sephiroth with his steel katana, and my keyblade only suffered few aestethic scratches! ^^

Yep, I am sure the crystal resin will help, it is a bit tricky to work with, but once you learn it, it's priceless. Good luck with your Stormfell!
