Wayfinders WIP by akelataka Wayfinders WIP by akelataka
Here are some more shots of the wayfinders I made, including work-in-progress, backside and size comparison shots. I made a total six of them but the first three didn't come out pretty well (actually, one of them is quite OK but I changed the shape of the sigil during the process as I stopped being satisfied with the one I was using at the beginning).

Materials used: Metal wires, crystal resin, air-drying modeling clay, shape-plast, 3D varnish, Decorlack acryl paints, Rub-n-buff silver and golden colors, acryl varnish, leather string, wax string.

I am really sorry but I don't... I will have a spare blue one (because I invented a new technique and NEEDEED to try it) and I could sell that one, but I probably won't take commissions for these any time soon because they were so hard to make that the price would be too big.

Thats ok. Thanks for taking the time to reply! They really are cool. And they do look hard to make.

Heheh, no, they would not. Everybody thinks that 100 USD for one of these is way too much (and actually I think it myself, but since they are really hard to make/time consuming, I would not be able to sell them for any less.)

Cool. :) makes me want to start sculpting with clay. Just too bad I don't have any at home right now.

These are so good! Do you have any plans on making a tutorial? The WIP shots aren't helping much in how it's being made. ^^;

Thanks! A tutorial? Well... I don't think I will make one. It is true that the WIP shots won't help, they are just for an illustration; I concealed a lot of stuff I used in the process but that is not part of the finished wayfinders - like classic children modeling clay, wooden sticks, polythene sack, etc...

The reason why I don't think I could make a tutorial is that these are all an outcome of an experiment, each done a different way, and I am sure I could even make them better, effort-wise or look-wise. I used the children modeling clay to cast the sigils from the crystal resin - but removing the clay after hardening of the resin was a pain in the ass X-D And I had to use smoothing file to correct the result (or "rebuild" it). I am sure there must be some better way. Thus, I will rather help individually by answering questions about some minor parts of the process-making, than teaching people how to make the wayfinders the not-so-effective and hard way ^^;
